  • How long does the recovery process take?
The recovery process varies depending on the individual and the specific condition being treated. Timelines can differ based on the severity and complexity of your symptoms. While some patients may experience significant improvements early on, others may take more time, and ongoing support is available to help you along the way. The key is consistency, patience, and working collaboratively to reach your health goals. Through the use of objective diagnostic testing to establish a baseline, we eliminate any uncertainty regarding your progress. By regularly re-evaluating your function during the Precision Brain Program, we ensure that your treatment plan is continually optimized based on measurable outcomes.
  • What types of conditions do you treat at Brain and Spine Wellness?
We help those with a variety of unique conditions. Learn more here.
  • Can I perform your program for sports performance?
We work with athletes across all levels—high school, collegiate, and professional—who benefit from brain optimization to enhance their performance and skill development in their respective sports.
  • Should I schedule a 5 or 10 day intensive?
This is a great question to discuss with Dr. Afzal during your complimentary consultation. Some patients begin with 5 days and then return how to continue at home therapy before determining if they will return for another 5 day course.
  • Am I a suitable candidate for the Precision Brain Program?
The best way to answer this question is to schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Afzal to discuss your case. This serves as a great opportunity to discuss your symptoms, talk through potential treatment strategies and collectively determine if you are a candidate for the program.
  • How does your approach differ from other clinics?
At Brain & Spine Wellness Center, we begin with evaluating function of your entire brain, not just one system. With this information, we provide a personalized approach to brain optimization using a variety of tools: customized eye tracking programs, proprioceptive training, vestibular rehabilitation, sensory processing, hand-eye coordination, reaction time therapies, and vagus nerve stimulation. Using non-invasive treatments, we aim to address the root causes of your symptoms, not just the symptoms themselves. As a female practitioner, Dr. Afzal brings both expertise and empathy, creating a compassionate, supportive environment where you feel heard and cared for.
  • What should I expect during my initial evaluation?
We will assess how your brain and nervous system are functioning to identify any areas of dysfunction that might be contributing to your condition. Detailed Health History – We conduct a comprehensive health history review, tracing your health journey from birth to the present. We will discuss your symptoms, previous treatments, imaging reports, and screen for contributing factors that may be limiting your healing. Neurological Exam – You will undergo a thorough neurological examination, which may include testing your reflexes, muscle strength, coordination, balance, sensation, cranial nerves, oculomotor and vestibular function. This helps the Functional Neurologist assess how your brain and nervous system are functioning in real time. Diagnostic Assessments – We perform a variety of objective tests depending on your needs. This may include video-oculography, computerized dynamic posturography (balance) testing, and cognitive testing. Personalized Treatment Plan – We will review your findings and the findings discuss a personalized treatment plan designed to address your brain's specific needs. Next Steps and Expectations – You’ll be given a clear understanding of the expected outcomes, the number of sessions or treatments required, and how your progress will be monitored over time. The goal is to help you achieve optimal brain health and improve your quality of life.
  • I am concerned I will not be able to tolerate 2.5 hours of evaluation.
Many patients who consult us experience significant fatigue or symptoms. For those concerned with a long assessment, it is recommended to break up the initial evaluation into two days: one day for diagnostics and the second day for the neurological examination and report of findings.
  • What are special considerations for out of state patients?
For those who travel to long distances to our office, it is recommended that you perform the comprehensive health history on the phone prior to your visit to decrease your total initial evaluation time.
  • Are there accommodations close by?
Yes, please inquire with our front desk for a list of quiet hotels near the office that can provide a restful place for you to rest between sessions.
  • How far are you located from Nashville airport (BNA)?
We are located 20 minutes from the airport.
  • What is a sample day schedule of neuro rehabilitation during an intensive week?
8am-9am neuro rehabilitation 9am-10am break 10am-10:30am office visit with Dr. Afzal to modify program 10:30am-11:30am neuro rehabilitation 11:30am-2:30pm lunch/nap break 2:30pm-3:30pm neuro rehabilitation
  • Can I schedule back to back neurorehabilitation without taking a long lunch break?
